Did you know a doctor is available to come and treat you and your family at home every night, weekends and public holidays? We come on behalf of your GP when they are closed and visit every suburb across Melbourne, Geelong and surrounds daily.
What if it is an emergency and I can’t wait?
Call 000 immediately for an ambulance
Remember if you leave the address after booking the home visiting doctor you must ring the service and let the operator know so we don’t waste the doctor’s time and keep the next patient waiting.
When can I request a home visiting doctor?
Weekdays: From 4pm to 8am the next day (overnight).
Doctors start from 6pm
Weekends: From 10am Saturday until 8am Monday.
Saturday doctors start from midday
Public holidays: Doctors are available 24 hours
Please ring your own GP during surgery hours.
If your own GP is available after hours, we will contact them for you.
Booking a home visit is easy:
1. Simply download our free mobile app, enter the patient’s details and submit the request. Save yourself the cost of a mobile call and possibly waiting on hold. One of our trained, friendly operators will call back quickly to confirm your request, or
2. Phone (03) 9429 5677. Your call will be triaged by our operator and request the following patient details:
- Full name, date of birth and address for the doctor to attend
- The patients regular GP. Please provide the clinic’s name and phone number. At the end of the consultation, a clinical report will be sent to your GP.
The home visiting doctor is not an appointment service; all home visits are scheduled according to their urgency. Our focus is to provide the most timely medical care, so your call will be prioritised. Our operators will stay in touch and contact you when the doctor is on the way, so please stay close to the phone. At any time please do not hesitate to contact us, we are here to help.
What is the cost? Do patients need to pay?
Our doctors bulk bill consultations through Medicare, so anyone registered with Medicare or Veterans Affairs are not required to pay. Patients who are not registered with either of these organisations are required to pay a fee at the time of the visit either by cash, Mastercard or Visa.
Is the home visiting doctor able to provide comprehensive medical care to me and my family at home?
The home visiting doctor will provide you with the same quality of care you would expect from your own GP. The doctors come fully equipped to treat urgent problems in the home and can suture lacerations, provide wound care, arrange hospital admission, palliative care, catheterisation, incident reports, peg tube maintenance, verification of death and stat medication if required.
What are the qualifications and experience of the home visiting doctors?
The home visiting doctors are fully qualified and will provide comprehensive medical care, just like your own GP. They are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), as required by the Medical Board of Australia and have full medical defence (indemnity insurance). They are the very same doctors you would see at a hospital or in a local general practice.
Our family owned business, which has been running for over 38 years, is accredited by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Standards and approved by the Commonwealth Department of Health.
The home visiting doctors provide after hours medical care to patients in their own home when their own doctor is not available. In 2012 we provided medical care to over 149,417 patients in the greater Melbourne Metropolitan area and Geelong.
